The UK has a self-regulatory approach to alcohol marketing which means that the alcohol industry itself is in control. This approach is failing to protect people and is contributing to the devastating alcohol harms in Scotland. New analysis shows that countries with statutory controls have comparatively less alcohol sponsorship of football which is why we are calling on the Scottish Government to ban alcohol sponsorship of sport.

Restricting alcohol advertising and promotion: consultation
On 17 November 2022, the Scottish Government published a consultation on restricting alcohol advertising and promotion.This consultation seeks views on potential restrictions to alcohol advertising and promotion in Scotland.
This consultation sets out a range of potential proposals to reduce and restrict alcohol marketing including prohibiting alcohol advertising outdoors, phasing out alcohol sponsorship and reducing the promotion of alcohol in-store.
The consultation closed on 9 March 2023.
